The moment you think you should maybe keep off the bike till there's a change in the ground conditions......

The bike and Clive parted company on a sheet of ice and it was then I thought that could have been me and I might not have been as lucky as Clive and walked away unharmed, so the desicion wasn't hard tomake really!

We'd done the Penicuik House and then Silverburn ride, then up past Eastside Farm without too much hassle but it was on the final descents that we ran into a lot of ice and had a few dodgy moments where the back wheel threatened to overtake me at times! Earlier on the track along to Penicuik we stopped to help a woman with a punctured front wheel and successfully managed to repair it though the tyre was as tight as hell on the rim!

The moment I reached 5000 off road miles for 2020, not bad for an old duffer!

This was the moment when I reached my 5000 miles for the year on my mountain bike, the majority of which have been done in the Pentland Hills which are pictured behind me!
The Garmin with the distance needed today to reach the 5k target!
Kathy who cycled round with me today and has encouraged me to go for the 5k these last 2 months, she's a wee cracker!!!

Getting close to the 5k off road miles this year

Clive and I celebrate with the last climb of the day reaching the summit of Castlelaw!
This is the narrow steep climb up Black Hill which takes you to the track along the north side of the hill, always a challenge and especially so just now after all the rain we've had lately, but great fun none the less!

Are the winters getting wetter, seems like it in Scotland!

This water crossing used to be a piece of cake, now its a case of approaching it cautiously and picking what you hope is a good line to try and avoid the biggest stone that get washed down when its in spate

Hells teeth that was hard work at times today!

The three of us at the summit of Castlaw this morning after a bit of pedaling and a bit of pushing through some wet snow!

Winter started in earnest today so changes have to be made!

As an alternative to the ebike I've put the wheels with the studded tyres on the Giant Anthem after our first serious snowfall, the ebike is still first choice but if the going gets too icy I have it too fall back on
